Washington State WIC Office Awarded MORE WIC! Subgrant

The Washington State WIC office earned a subgrant through the MORE WIC! project. Washington is one of three state agencies across the country selected to receive funding and technical support in this round of awards.

Over the 22-month project, Washington WIC will receive up to $400,000. This funding will help improve coordination with Medicaid and SNAP, while expanding direct outreach to eligible families who aren't currently enrolled.

Closing Participation Gaps in Washington

Even though Washington WIC serves over 212,000 people each year, data shows big gaps in coverage: nearly half of Medicaid recipients and 41% of SNAP participants in the state who likely qualify for WIC are not enrolled. While these programs already share data, they have not yet set up direct contact with eligible individuals.

With this grant, Washington WIC will build a stronger outreach system by:

• Improving data matching with Medicaid and SNAP.
• Sending targeted emails to connect directly with potential participants.
• Using feedback from participants to spot enrollment barriers and improve outreach efforts.

MORE WIC! (Minimizing Obstacles and Recruiting Eligible Families in WIC) is a USDA cooperative project led by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health alongside the National WIC Association (NWA).
