Want to Make a Bigger Impact for WIC?

Nutrition First is seeking WIC staff and partners from across Washington to serve on our Board of Directors.
As someone working directly within the WIC community, your operational insight, community perspective, and lived experience are vital to shaping our organizational strategy and advocacy efforts.
Our board is committed to ensuring that local agency staff from all roles have a direct voice in guiding our mission, your day-to-day understanding of WIC needs provides essential context for statewide decision-making.
Opportunities for Professional Growth and Collaboration
Board service provides a shared space to engage with broader policy and governance questions while contributing to the sustainability of WIC services. Members have the opportunity to:
- Collaborate with colleagues and peers from diverse local agencies across the state.
- Strengthen governance, strategic planning, and non-profit leadership competencies.
- Inform federal, state, and local advocacy priorities affecting WIC participants, staff, and local agency operations.
- Exchange insights, mentorship, and best practices with fellow public health colleagues.
Institutional Support
To ensure accessibility, participation in Nutrition First governance activities, including board meetings, committee work, educational events, and approved advocacy, is recognized as an allowable WIC operational expense. With supervisor approval, you can participate during regular working hours without requiring the use of personal leave.
Time commitment:
Each board member is asked to attend our quarterly, 90-minute board meeting, as well as commit to participating in one of our committees: Education, Advocacy, or Communication & Partnership. The time commitment for a typical Board member averages out to about 1.5 hours a month.
