Good News: Congress Agrees on a Funding Bill to Keep Government Open, including WIC

There is great news regarding WIC funding.

Congress has passed a temporary funding bill, called a "Continuing Resolution" (CR). Both the House and the Senate passed the bill with strong bipartisan support. It is now waiting for President Trump's signature.

What this means for WIC:

If the President signs this bill, the government will stay funded through December 11, 2026. This gives Congress more time to finalize the full budget for fiscal year 2027.

Does this change anything for WIC staff or families?

No. WIC services and benefits will remain exactly the same. There will be no disruption to our work when the fiscal year ends on September 30.

Are we still at risk of a government shutdown?

No. The immediate risk of a shutdown on October 1 has been avoided. This is a big improvement from last year's long shutdown. This temporary bill provides stability for WIC through December 11, 2026.

What about Remote Services?

The remote service waivers were not addressed in this Bill, please see our related post on this topic, which we will update as progress is made on that topic.

Nutrition First will continue to monitor the situation and share any updates with you. For now, WIC can continue serving families without interruption.
