The CYSHCN Nutrition Network is a group of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) across Washington State who provide nutrition services for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN). After completing initial training, members join yearly continuing education sessions focused on nutrition issues specific to children and youth with special needs. If you have not yet received this training, read on!

Nutrition First and the Nutrition Network are teaming up to provide this training and are working to ensure there is no registration cost to local WIC agencies that allow their dietitians to attend.

You'll learn from nationally recognized experts at the University of Washington’s Institute for Human Development and Disability and Seattle Children's Hospital covering topics including:

  • Feeding the Infant and Toddler: Typical Development and Common Problems
  • Nutrition Assessment of Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs
  • Nutrition Considerations for Infants Following Hospital Discharge
  • Nutrition Interventions for ASD
  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Hunger Regulation
  • Tube Feeding Management
  • Ketogenic Diet for Seizure Management
  • Family-Centered Care
  • Primary Care Medical Homes for CYSHCN
  • Early Intervention, Early Childhood, and Special Education Services for CYSHCN in Washington State

Why You Should Join

New members are selected through an application process based on service needs across Washington State. To apply, you must hold an active RDN credential and work in a setting where you interact with CYSHCN (such as WIC). Training sessions are limited in size to ensure quality, hands-on interaction. Once trained, members participate in yearly continuing education sessions on nutrition issues affecting children with special needs.

Upcoming Training

The next training to become a Nutrition Network Dietitian will be held virtually over two full days: January 26 and February 2, 2027.
