Concerns about FY 2026 WIC Funding

The House Appropriations Committee has proposed cuts to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) that would:

  • Undermine WIC services by failing to provide enough funding to serve the projected number of families in need.
  • Begins the President’s request to cut the WIC Fruit and Vegetable Benefit, reversing progress made in improving access to healthy foods for young children and pregnant people.
  • Alter the science-based WIC food package that our state and others are currently implementing, including: Increasing dairy allocations; changing the timing of peanut product introductions; “Resetting” the fruit and vegetable benefit to pre-COVID levels, far below what families need today and what was approved last year.

These cuts would harm families across Washington and the nation, just when participation in WIC is rising, and support is needed most.

There is time to act.

The National WIC Association is calling on all WIC supporters – staff, participants, and community members – to urge Congress to reject these cuts.  Please make sure to do this on your personal time and device.
