The release of new Dietary Guidelines always sparks conversation, and the latest iteration is no exception. For WIC staff, these guidelines bring both opportunities and challenges as we strive to provide the best possible nutrition support to our participants. This panel of Washington WIC RD will explore how WIC staff can navigate these new guidelines, understand their implications, and effectively integrate them (or address their limitations) into their crucial work.

Objectives:

  • Translate the Dietary Guidelines for WIC into practical, participant-centered counseling messages.
  • Respond confidently to common staff and participant questions using current evidence.
  • Reference trusted national and state-level resources to support nutrition education.
  • Adapt guidance to address cultural preferences, access barriers, and equity considerations.

WIC staff, with their deep understanding of participant needs and local resources, are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between general guidelines and real-life application.  Every WIC staff person in Washington State can register, for free, below.
